Texas Health Hospital Mansfield | Whole health | Summer 2024

Summer 2024 7 Summer’s long days leave more time for family fun. It’s also a time to take a few extra precautions. Consider these tips from Heather Granado, DO, Medical Director of Texas Health Hospital Mansfield’s emergency department (ED). Stay hydrated, and stay out of the sun during the hottest times of the day. Take breaks in the shade. Drink water or other nonalcoholic fluids frequently, even if you don’t feel thirsty. Watch kids around water. Always stay within an arm’s length of them. Gear up. Wear a helmet and proper safety gear when riding bikes or playing other sports. Use sunscreen. Reapply every two hours—sooner if you swim or sweat. “Most sunburns can be prevented with sunscreen and protective clothing,” Dr. Granado says. A summer safety guide Celebrate July Fourth safely. “It’s not uncommon that we receive patients in the ED with hand injuries or kids with sparkler burns,” Dr. Granado says. “To prevent injury, it is best to leave most fireworks to the professionals.” Always ready Should you or your child have an emergency this summer, you can trust the Texas Health Mansfield ED to expertly and promptly treat all types of emergencies, from fractures to allergic reactions and burns. Personalized primary care Meet Renee Baril, FNP-BC As a board-certified family medicine nurse practitioner, Renee Baril loves building relationships with her patients and helping them achieve their health goals. Wellness tailored to you Renee takes the time to get to know her patients, their lifestyles and occupations. This helps her create a realistic care plan that fits each person’s unique needs and abilities. “For example, not everybody can jump on a treadmill,” Renee says. “So how can we help you become a bit more active?” “A lot of people already know about the importance of diet and exercise,” Renee continues. “That’s easy to say to someone. I say, ‘Let’s make a plan to help you be healthy,’ versus just telling you to get on a treadmill or stop smoking.” Renee says it’s important to find a provider with whom you feel comfortable discussing your lifestyle. “Your primary care provider should be someone who will be a partner in your healthcare, keep you as healthy as possible and help you with the things you need,” Renee says.
