Fall 2026 5 Mansfield moves together Strides for Strength supports community health It’s always a win for our community when families and neighbors come together to create connections and inspire wellness and healing, and the Strides for Strength 5K and one mile Family Fun Run is no exception. This annual celebration of movement and community brings hundreds of participants, including many of our team members, to the starting line at Texas Health Hospital Mansfield. As a host partner for Strides for Strength, Texas Health Mansfield is committed to community health alongside organizations like the YMCA. This year’s event supports Live Strong at the YMCA, a physical activity program that helps cancer survivors rebuild their strength. Additionally, the race supports the expansion of Texas Health Mansfield’s women’s services, including the new outpatient center. The hospital’s goal is to provide comprehensive healthcare to women at all life stages. “This event brings the community together to support healthy living and those who are fighting or recovering from cancer,” says Lindsey Trook, Director of Community Engagement. “It’s also an opportunity for people to exercise, connect with neighbors and support local vendors, all for a good cause.” A screening that can save your life Mammograms are a key part of women’s health When breast cancer is found early, it’s often easier to treat. Physical breast exams—both self-exams and doctor checkups— can detect lumps that may be cancer. But don’t rely on those alone. Mammograms can spot tiny changes long before they can be felt when you or your doctor check your breasts. “Mammogram screening is so incredibly important because physical checks do not tell the whole story,” says Tiffany Woodus, MD, FACOG, a board-certified obstetriciangynecologist. For women at average risk of breast cancer, the American College of Gynecologists and Obstetricians recommends yearly mammograms starting at age 40, Dr. Woodus notes. Those at high risk may benefit from earlier screening. Talk with your provider about what’s right for you. Don’t let uncertainty stop you A mammogram takes only about 15 minutes. If you’re hesitant or not sure what to expect, Dr. Woodus suggests having a conversation with your doctor. Understanding the reason behind any anxiety—whether it’s misinformation or past bad experiences—is important. “Being open and honest will help to dispel a lot of things so that we can accommodate your needs and make sure that you feel well cared for,” Dr. Woodus says.
